The Des Moines Golden K Kiwanis Club financially supports Capitol View Elementary School and Findley Elementary School in Des Moines and works with students at both schools. Since the 1997-1998 school year, the club has contributed approximately $250,000 to both schools and children in general, excluding money given to the district and national foundations. Between 1997-1998 and 2017-2018 alone, the club contributed $24,985,08 to Findley Elementary School, $22,135.06 to Capitol View Elementary School, $69,497.62 to the YMCA summer camp and $23,511 to the YMCA environmental program for a total of $140,128.76. Golden K to sponsor LHS Key Club
Starting the 2025-2026 school year, the Golden K club will sponsor the Key Club at Lincoln High School in Des Moines. The Key Club had been sponsored by the Downtown Des Moines Kiwanis Club, which has disbanded. There are more than 251,000 Key Club members in 40 countries.
Honoring students in spring 2025
On May 22, our club honored six outstanding fifth grade students from both schools during a regular meeting. The students received gifts and were recognized along with their teachers and parents/guardians/principals.

Kiwanis Miracle League
On Saturday, August 29, four former major-league baseball players and personnel from the Iowa Cubs helped during Miracle League games. At right is Randy Wehofer, assistant general manager of the I-Cubs.Wehofer, former New York Yankees Johnny Gomes and Nick Swisher, and former St. Louis Cardinals Adam Wainwright and Rick Ankiel served as buddies for Miracle League players.Randy Wehofer of the I-Cubs helps a Miracle League player round the bases. During 1998-2018 the Golden K Kiwanis Club contributed $9,849 to the Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District Foundation and the Kiwanis International Foundation. The total included $7,599 to the International Foundation and $2,250 to the District Foundation.
